My School Board colleague Carrie Du Bois has been a strong advocate for a number of children’s causes in the community, and she has organized an event on Monday, June 1st for community members to be engaged in a conversation about foster children in our community. The purpose of the meeting is to promote awareness and [...] The community survey was completed last week, and I presented the results at the Board meeting last night. The survey is a vital part of a multi-step effort to get input from the community and better understand the potential tradeoffs we may need to make in the budget. For more background on the [...] At last night’s meeting, we clarified and added to the schedule of upcoming board meetings regarding the budget. The upcoming meetings are as follows: - March 19th (7pm): regular board meeting which will include the presentation of the community budget survey results. - March 26th (4pm): Community Forum meeting — targeted toward teachers and other staff [...] I’ve never been a superstitious one. In fact, it has always annoyed me that hotels and other high rise buildings in the U.S. tend to to remove the 13th floor (as if we don’t realize the 14th floor has now become the 13th floor). It’s a very good — and challenging — set of questions for the community to answer and give feedback on their priorities and the potential tradeoffs required in this challenging budget requirement.
