About this site

I am currently a Governing Board Member of the San Carlos School District, elected November 2007 and again in November 2011. I created this site to keep in touch with folks who want to know more about what is happening in the District and what it's like to be a Trustee.

Please note that ANY OPINION EXPRESSED HERE IS PURELY PERSONAL AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY REFLECT OFFICIAL POSITIONS OR POLICY OF THE SAN CARLOS SCHOOL DISTRICT NOR THE OPINION OF ANY OF MY COLLEAGUES ON THE BOARD.

I encourage everyone to visit the District web site as well as attend School Board meetings.

Note that I reserve the right to edit, reject, or delete posts based on spelling, grammar, readability, or my judgment of what is appropriate discourse.

Sequoia Union HSD Election — it’s contested!!

Unlike the San Carlos School District where there will be no election this year, there are a couple of important votes to be cast this November. The first is for Measure U, on which I will elaborate more in a future post.

The other major vote is for electing the Trustees for the Sequoia Union High School District. As you are probably aware, the SUHSD extends from Woodside to Belmont, and includes four major high schools plus continuation, adult, and charter schools. It overlays the San Carlos School District, and most of our middle school students go on to either Sequoia High School or Carlmont High School. The high school district is governed separately from the San Carlos School District, and has an elected board of 5 trustees, who like us, serve for four-year terms.

This November, two seats are up for election (neither incumbent will be running again), but there are eight candidates for those two seats! I had the privilege of co-hosting an event yesterday for two of those candidates whom I have endorsedVirginia Chang Kiraly and Alan Sarver. I have known both of them in various capacities, and I am excited to endorse them as they bring a strong business background, a history of dedication to the schools, and strong judgment with a balanced view of the issues.

Citizens of San Carlos are of course very much affected by how well the High School District serves all of our children, and I am confident that both of these candidates will be strong dedicated public servants for our students. I encourage you all to visit their web sites (here and here) and learn more about the election, and of course vote on November 3, 2009!
