A Community of Schools
Working Together as one Community to Benefit all San Carlos Children
We may all have different opinions on what goals are important, what problems there
may be, and the right solutions to reach our vision.  However, having
trust is the key
ingredient -- without it, the School Board doesn't have the mandate and authority from
the parents and the staff to set direction and make decisions.  Although someone will
always disagree with any particular decision the Board may make (or I may make
personally), a culture of trust, accountability, and measurability will ensure that we are
all marching in the same direction.
San Carlos has made a tremendous amount of progress
over the last few years from becoming a community with
seven schools in it to a real community of schools.  Although
there is always a certain amount of flexibility each school
site should have based on its own resources, physical plant,
and student population, I believe that San Carlans realize
that providing an excellent -- and an "inspired" -- education
for all children in our community is in everyone's interest.
My experience with the SCEF, as well as being a
classroom volunteer,
Healthy Cities tutor, and Little
League and AYSO coach, has highlighted for me both
the quality of the educators we have as well as the
tremendous amount of parent involvement in San
Carlos.  The dedication and passion of our community is
unmatched.
The role of School Board is to harness that passion, build trust within the
community, and lay out a vision for the District.
 Particularly with a new
Superintendent in the District, the Board has an opportunity to set such a vision based
on the input and collaboration of all community members, including the administration,
teachers, and parents.
